Unveiling a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of interesting indie games. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a turd attempting to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty levels, you'll face mini-bosses and access a market to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Time your movements with caution, since one wrong move forces starting over. Jump on floating orbs to launch your character higher, navigate fragile ledges, and touch buttons to reveal secret routes. Gather coins and use them on more difficult levels where things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience shows off eye-catching level designs and a killer background music. The simple graphics featuring shifting basic polygons evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name other games where you control a dung character, video games frequently incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant awards, such as winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on computers in the fall.
