McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

The coach agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful European competition performance, should they not finish as Group J second place.

Considering his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the minimum.
